1.4 Engaged Life

Newly engaged, Laurent moved full time to Newcrest and he and Adaleigh worked hard on improving the house. Of course, being that Laurent wanted to be a chef he insisted that they add a kitchen, no matter how small to the house and a small table for them to eat at as well.

Every morning before Adaleigh went outside to tend the garden they would sit down together to eat whatever new creation that Laurent had whipped up that morning.

"Mmm... see do you smell all the different spices in the eggs." Laurent said as he wafted the smell towards his nose.

"Honestly, it smells like eggs and bacon to me." she said with an indulgent smile. "But I know you worked hard on making them."

"Well, when we can afford a better stove you will be able to tell I swear."

"Ok."

Under her care the garden was beginning to grow even larger. She had even begun to learn how to graft different plants and create amazing hybrids. Yes, she was certain that her garden would soon be perfect. She was determined that she would have at least 8 perfect plants in the garden before the park opened to the public.

And so she strove to create the perfect garden.

And planned for her wedding as well. With Laurents income as a chef and the money that she made from produce and some foraging now and again they built an archway and planted some lovely plants around it in preparation for the big day.

"I really can't wait... I mean its even more perfect than I could have imagined."

"I know what you mean."

Adaleigh and Laurent sat on those benches on more than one evening enjoying fantasying about their wedding. With Adaleigh working on her garden, and Laurent trying his best to get a promotion past head dishwasher, they both wanted to wait just a bit longer and just enjoy each others company.

The Newcrest Park and Gardens was expanding nicely though.

And as Laurent worked his way up the ladder in his career so did their kitchen. By the time he was promoted to caterer their kitchen had expanded to be two thirds their entire house! And with the house so enlarged and the gardens looking so wonderful they both wondered why they were waiting any longer.

They set the date and Laurent headed off to spend the night with a friend the day before the wedding.

Excited and a little nervous, Adaleigh, of course, invited over her great friend Summer Holiday to spend the night and help her get ready in the morning.

"Are you nervous? Tomorrow is the big day."

"You know, surprisingly, I'm not." Adaleigh looked around the small space that she and Laurent had built into a little home. Later she knew that it would become a greenhouse and that they would move on.

"I still can't believe that Laurent agreed to take your name."

Adaleigh smiled. Laurent McGinnis. Soon he would be her Mister.
